Sharing Is Caring: Everything That Happened at the APJanmabhoomi Cleveland Outreach Program

To share is to care. People across the world have grown up with this age old proverb nested in their hearts. A firm sense of responsibility towards the welfare of the humanity drives us to be good people in this big mad world, besides nurturing the feelings of responsibility towards the community we grow up in.

The APJanmabhoomi initiative, under the Special representative for North America Shri. Jayaram Komati, seeks to tap into the novel pro-social behavior that roots NRIs to the concerns of their homelands and bridge the gap that the oceans encompass.

In a wonderful outreach campaign organized by a group of Cleveland-based Telugu NRIs who have the means and ability to share their material values with their motherland, APJanmabhoomi found exposure at the State Badminton Tournament organized by TANA (the Telugu Association of North America) on 5th February, 2017.

The purpose of the campaign was to principally make the USA based Telugu and other Indian diasporas aware of the novel initiative of the Andhra Pradesh Government's developmental initiatives the NRIs could be a major stakeholder of.

There remains a gap in information on how NRIs can donate towards their native places, what options they have at hand. It, therefore, brought the APJanmabhoomi campaigns into the NRI's attention who were interested to know about all the good and the great they can be doing to give back to the motherland they cherish.

In conversation with Mr. Surendra Nimmagadda Garu, it was delightful to learn about the enthusiasm of our NRIs to be a part of indigenous developmental activities. When asked about what motivates him to participate in APJanmabhoomi's program, he expressed how privileged he felt to be able to donate towards the expansion of digital literacy in his community. More than anything he wants to engage in more meaningful contribution and even encourage his fellow well-wishers abroad to chip in.

A sense of community belonging never quite abandons the heart of a true patriot, and it is this sense of togetherness and shared welfare interests that bind the Telugu NRIs as a community in the USA too.

The outreach program as ideated and organized under the wings of TANA seeks to tap into this community feeling that can be connected back to serve towards the larger welfare of the people of Andhra Pradesh. Through digitalization of schools, funding of Anganwadis and construction of burial grounds, the NRI community expressed a lot of eagerness in stepping forward to pick up opportunities that will fulfill the sense of responsibility they share towards their homeland.

Mr. Ashok Babu Garu Kolla too reiterated how the opportunity to fulfill his sense of responsibility attracted him to fund for the digitalization of around 14 schools in his native district. He endeavors to spread awareness in the foreign community so that they too find a place where they can be the patrons of tomorrow. It's remarkable!

The outreach program was, therefore, successful in developing awareness towards the APJanmabhoomi initiative under the Special Representative for North America. We thank the initiative and proactive interest of the NRIs to share the investment to be made towards caring and sustaining a more vibrant community back home.

We are looking forward to the many more events planned over the upcoming weeks and will be seeking the gracious support of the Telugu diaspora in ushering in a happier future for the Sunrise State.
